The Sanctuary of Atotonilco is a little known Mexican
treasure. The walls of the 18th century church are completely covered
with paintings depicting Christ and his life and times. The church is
a revered holy place for thousands of Mexicans who make yearly
pilgrimmages here. From there we can go on to "La Soledad,"
a monastery that has wonderful wood folk carvings and then perhaps a
visit to a hot water spring for the adventuresome. Option to continue
on to Dolores Hidalgo.
Length of Tour: 2 - 6 hours.
"That church was a little treasure and I was happy to see that it is being
restored. Our 'crown of thorns' is hanging in our kitchen and reminds us of our
day in the country.
