This is one of the most scenically beautiful states in
all of Mexico. Morelia, the state capital, is a fascinating colonial
city filled with sublime architecture. Its treasures include a first
rate folk art museum and sales gallery along with a market to rival
those in Mexico City. Within a hour's drive from Morelia, nestled
against Lake Pátzcuaro lies the charming and colorful town of
Pátzcuaro. Stately elm trees line the elegant main plaza, a perfect
place to sit, observe, and discover old México. The 16th
century Basilica holds many treasures, as does the Museo Regional de Artes Popular (Museum of
Popular and Regional Arts) and the numerous markets and shops featuring
fine crafts from the surrounding areas. A trip to Tzintzunzan, to
discover that perfect piece of pottery, is included in our trip
through the brilliant rolling green hills that surround the lake. Special
trips arranged to visit the annual folk art market, during the week
preceding Palm Sunday.
Length of Tour: 2 - 3 days.
"We weren't sure what you meant when you told us Patzcuaro was like going back
75 years to the old Mexico but now we know. What a charming town and if only we
had a UHaul with us to take back all the incredible crafts we saw. My husband
thought I did o.k. however! Morelia was an unexpected treat, what an elegant
city and we thought your restaurant choice there was first rate."

"Helene, I just wanted to thank you again for the
wonderful experiences. I had a feeling I was very lucky to be able to go
to Patzcuaro with you, and I was right. It was lovely. My platter
I bought from your friend in Tzintzuntzan didn't survive the trip, so I'll
have to return! Thanks again for everything. You're a wonderfully
patient person who is fearless!"
