San Juan del Rio, Tequisquiapan and Benal:

San Juan Del Rio, Tequisquiapan and Bernal: These three towns are located in the State of Querétaro. San Juan Del Rio is famous for it's opal mines. We will visit several shops featuring loose opals and opals set in silver and gold. For the adventuresome a short stop at the Museo de Los Muertos, or museum of the dead will afford some great photographs of old tombstones and interesting displays of ancient burial rites. Next stop is Tequisquiapan a town that is well know for it's straw and rattan market. The attractive square in the center of town is surrounded by shops and restaurants featuring the cheese and wine that Tequis is known for and where an annual Cheese and Wine festival is celebrated in September. Bernal is a most charming city that will have you thinking you've arrived on a movie set at Disney Studios. It's also the site of the world's second largest monolithic rock right after Ayer's rock in Australia. Bernal is the place to shop for hand woven woolen rugs, bedspreads and ponchos. It has lately had a revival of restaurants and shops featuring other crafts of the State of Querétaro. Photographers will have a field day here. If time permits on the way from Tequis to Bernal we'll stop at the Frexinet winery for a tour and a tasting.

Length of Tour: 8 - 10 hours.

Our group thought Tequisquiapan was a lovely town and Bernal was movie set charming. However, our favorite stop was at the winery to see how the wine was produced and bottled. The tasting wasn't bad either. Good thing you were doing the driving... Thanks for the special day and for knowing where all the best bathrooms were!"
